Applegate Grooming Tip of the Month!

Applegate Grooming Tip of the Month

With Christmas coming I'm sure there will be new puppies and kittens found under the tree. If you do receive one of these beautiful gifts here are some hints before you take them for their first beauty treatment.

Grooming shops are usually filled with new sounds for your baby pet such as clippers and dryers running. At home let your pet get used to loud noises like your vacuum cleaner or hair dryers. The more loud sounds they hear the easier it will be for your pet and groomer.

Handle your pet's feet often so they can get used to having their nails clipped.

Rub your pet's ears so they can get used to having their ears cleaned.

Train your pet not to bite or mouth your hand when you do work with them.

Use a brush and comb on their coats. Again do not let them bite at you or the brush or comb.

If you plan on having your pet groomed, get them started early. The younger they are the more accepting they are to being handled by your groomer.

As a groomer, I enjoy starting new puppies and kittens. There is a sense of pride when I can send a baby home and tell the owners that it was a pleasure grooming them.

With proper training at home your new pet will have less stress and discomfort at their first grooming and your groomer will be very appreciative of your efforts.

Merry Christmas to all.
